Since September, Jane reinforces our support team and looks back on impressive 25 years of experience in the field. In this short interview she sums up her first months at solvimus and reveals what she appreciates in her work with us.
Jane, how did you get to know solvimus?
I spent my entire professional life, more than 25 years, in first level support. At some point I noticed that I am ready for a new challenge. Thus, I regularly combed the well-known job sites, and one day I found the job advert from solvimus – for the first level support! I was caught by surprise and enthusiastic, as this was precisely my area of expertise, and the best of all: in the Ilm county! It was a condition for me that I wanted to stay in the region as my family resides here and my life is centred there.
I had not yet heard of solvimus up to this point, and so I inspected their homepage. More than anything else, the video on the start page and the blog posts – especially the interviews with the staff – appealed to me at once. And so I simply applied for the position.
What prompted you to decide for solvimus ?
The initial conversion on the phone with our HR Business Partner Sarah was totally pleasant and I was really excited to get to know her in person.
I was totally impressed when entering the office spaces! From outside, the building is unimposing, but inside the atmosphere is welcoming and friendly – one immediately feels welcome.
My nervousness evaporated during the interview with Remo and Sarah. It didn’t seem to be a classical job interview; more as if they applied to me instead. That’s exceptional.
How did you spend your first day and your first weeks? How was your onboarding?
I got a heartfelt welcome on my first day. My workspace was lovingly decorated – with a plant, a welcome garland and a few snacks. This inspired new motivation to address my new tasks, and I went really welcome immediately.
I spent my first week in the manufacturing department where I got a thorough grasp of our products. This was indeed new to me, it was an intriguing introduction. My background is IT support, and technical support is entirely different!
Luckily, I have with Erik an old-established supporter on my side who is always willing to reply to my every question. He guides me in the onboarding to this day and replies to any question with great patience – no question is too much for him.
Also the entire solvimus team is simply great. I felt being part of the team at once, and everyone was willing to help me or reply to any question. The family-like working environment is marvellous, and I appreciate that we spend our lunch break together.
Work is but half of the lifetime. What do you like to do in your spare time?
The flexible working time model allows me to finally have a real work-life balance! Previously, when working shifts in a 24/7 job, this was not possible. Now I have more free time and thus time for things that are dear to me.
Being a real family-minded person, I spend most of my time with my husband, my son and our dog. We adore cooking together, make ourselves comfortable and go for a walk.
If I want to disconnect, I grab a humorous book – laughing is utterly important to me in life.
What is your morning ritual in the office?
First, I prepare a cup of tea and check my e-mails, so that our customers get a swift response on their enquiries.
What is your daily routine and with which tasks are you entrusted?
I am an aide to Erik in Support, charged with first level support. As a consequence, he can dedicate more time to the intricate cases in second level support.
My task is to respond by e-mail and on the phone to support enquiries of a more basic character. What is more, I manage the support tickets in our system, respect the deadlines and ensure that all support cases are properly documented.
What is the biggest challenge in your work?
The biggest challenge for me was the transition from IT support to the technical support as the technical background on our products was uncharted ground to me. I first had to understand what requirements they entail. But this is precisely what I enjoy – I keep learning and develop myself
