Michael is member of our Development team since March and contributes substantially to a customer project.
He agreed (reluctantly 😉) to the solvimus tradition and replies to questions on his first weeks as solvimusian in a short interview.
Michael, describe yourself with a song title or a film title:
Oh, that’s tough to pinpoint something there. I enjoy so many widely differing styles – ranging from punk over indie rock to electronic music. The key point is: no Schlager music 😉
Some people perceive me as a “Know-it-all”, and thus “Besserwisserboy” (Know-it-all-boy) by the Ärzte would be a good match.
Work is but half of the lifetime. What is your favourite leisure-time activity?
I have 2 little children aged 2 & 4 years, and I adore spending time with them. I like playing on my PC, time permitting alongside family life. I am not restricting myself to a particular category, and the play beats graphics. And when in need of a sporty balance, martial arts is my choice.
Why did you decide for solvimus, and what left a positive impression at first contact?
The benefits on the homepage incited me to apply. They coincide with my personal preferences. Any qualm evaporated when the get-to-know-you meeting turned out to be very authentic and pleasant.
A very positive impact was coined when the first interview was not so much about my CV, but was focused on my personality. This was a new experience and was absolutely exceptional to me.
Tell us about your tasks with us! What is a typical workday for you ?
I was quickly involved in own large projects that define my daily routine. Research occupies much of my time and I study documentation, databases and source code. Chiefly, I edit source code and modify it.
What do you like most at solvimus? What is not so marvellous?
I enjoy working with Linux ! And generally speaking, the all-round package makes getting to work very pleasant. Whether coffee, fruits or ice cream at the temperatures at present – solvimus does a lot to ensure that people enjoy coming to the office. I appreciate the diversity of the tasks entrusted to me, clearing my work from frustration, and that my co-workers are great persons.
What is not so marvellous? Giving interviews ! (laughing)
How do you explain your parents what you are doing at solvimus?
I’d try a non-technical approach, to the extent that this is possible. We develop, manufacture and sell devices that control and read out many meters so that the generated reports reveal one’s consumption. I aid developing the software for these devices.
What do you think do all solvimusians share ?
We are all aware of the future-proof concept of this industry sector and we contribute actively to provide our share in resolving the energy problem of the world.
