We as company aim to grow in a healthy and sustainable way, and on this path we create new positions as we see a need for them. Exactly this prompted us last summer to recruit an operational buyer whose single task it will be to secure our parts supply from the market, which will turn out to be both complex and challenging.
Luckily, the vacancy enticed Benjamin and he was hired for this responsible position in October. Today, we invited him for an interview & we also learned new aspects about him:
To provide a first impression from you as a person:
If you could only hear one single song for the rest of your life, which one would it be and why?
(laughing) I am glad you did not ask which film title describes me…
More than anything else U2 – Vertigo. I like rock music in general, and this song drives me and inspires good mood.
You have been a solvimusian for 8 weeks now. What did you experience this far?
A lot! I came to know all co-workers and I have many external contact persons with whom we cooperate regularly. I am still in the onboarding phase and I am familiarizing myself with the internal projects and processes.
Why did you decide for us? What triggered you?
I have known solvimus for a long time and I have followed the company for several years. Being a local, deeply rooted in the Ilm county, the good reputation and its sustainability concept have impressed me. Once this appealing position was advertised, I gave it a try. And the good reputation turned out true in the job interviews: all were open-minded and candid, generating a good impression.
Tell us about your tasks with us! What is a typical workday for you?
I start with a hot chocolate and crank up my notebook… (laughing).
No, in dead earnest: purchase is communication. I am in intricate contact with the individual departments, plan the throughput and cooperate with the team. I observe deadlines, place orders, and sometimes I have to tread on our suppliers’ feet.
How do you explain your grandmother what you are doing at solvimus?
As buyer I am in charge that all purchases, ranging from office supplies and electronics to the product housings, arrive quickly and economically. I negotiate prices and sales conditions and coordinate the inward flow of products and services in the company. To buy whatever is appropriate at the right time and assure that it ends up at its destination, so to say.
What do you think do all solvimusians share?
I have the impression that everyone contributes actively and is thrilled to make the company better every day. And also sustainable spirit of the time propels many of us.
Now comes the tricky part: if you could change one thing, what would you change at solvimus?
(after a long meditation) This is indeed difficult to answer, as the majority of the processes works smoothly here. But if I were to opt for something, my wish would be that everyone recalls what makes the company distinct – short routes to decisions, flexible solutions and comparatively fast solutions – the slogan is the programme. 😊
When you are not combing the markets for components and the like, how do you spend your free time? What is your personal balance to the job?
I spend a lot of time with my family and friends, I go to sports and to the cinema. Other than that, I do little trades and also own a drone. And in this year, I discovered photography for me.
Thank you, dear Benjamin, for having you here with us!
